During the summer, Respite Care offers a Summer Day Camp program. Children enrolled in Respite Care’s Rocks and Boulders programs can sign up for weeks of Day Camp, during which they will be paired 1:1 with volunteers and attend exciting opportunities out in the community! Two trained Respite Care team members lead the 10-week program and group campers according to age and common interests. Day Camp destinations include Inspiration Playground, City Park Pool, the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, and more! Day Camp also includes the possibility to attend Horse Camp at Hearts and Horses in Loveland. Day Camp is one of the highlights of our summer at Respite Care!
Each summer, Respite Care sends several children between 10 and 13 years to a week-long overnight camp! During Wilderness Camp Week, campers explore the outdoors and have a traditional camp experience that includes rock climbing, archery, canoeing, horseback riding, and more more. This is a memorable–and some would say life changing–experience for all who attend. Each camper is paired one-on-one with a trained Respite Care team member for the week, who provides 24/7 supervision, engagement, and assistance as needed.
Community engagement is a crucial part of individual growth. Thanks to many wonderful community partners, kiddos at Respite Care are able to participate in fun, memorable, and educational field trips throughout town and surrounding areas.
From arts and crafts, to therapy dogs, to special musical events, to trips to the Respite garden, we do it all! The staff at Respite Care create an abundance of opportunity for the kiddos to engage with volunteers, community members, and each other. We love seeing the kiddos develop friendships while simultaneously growing in their social skills.
