During the summer, Respite Care offers a Summer Day Camp program. Children enrolled in Respite Care’s Rocks and Boulders programs can sign up for weeks of Day Camp, during which they will be paired 1:1 with volunteers and attend exciting opportunities out in the community! Two trained Respite Care team members lead the 10-week program and group campers according to age and common interests. Day Camp destinations include Inspiration Playground, City Park Pool, the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, and more! Day Camp also includes the possibility to attend Horse Camp at Hearts and Horses in Loveland. Day Camp is one of the highlights of our summer at Respite Care!
Each summer, Respite Care sends several children between 10 and 13 years to a week-long overnight camp! During Wilderness Camp Week, campers explore the outdoors and have a traditional camp experience that includes rock climbing, archery, canoeing, horseback riding, and more more. This is a memorable–and some would say life changing–experience for all who attend. Each camper is paired one-on-one with a trained Respite Care team member for the week, who provides 24/7 supervision, engagement, and assistance as needed.
Prom night is a magical one at Respite Care! Each spring, teens show up in their finest attire and are greeted with a corsage or boutonniere by their volunteer “buddy” for the evening. The event includes elaborate themed decorations, food, music, and a professional photographer to capture these memorable moments as the teens dance the night away with friends.
A Respitality is a monthly event sponsored by Foothills Gateway and Respite Care. Children receiving services from Foothills Gateway and their siblings under the age of 12 can sign up for the 4-hour themed events and participate in games and group activities! The event is free, and aims to provide parents with an afternoon or evening without having to worry about child care. During Respitalities, volunteers are paired 1:1 with each child and help them participate in each activity.
**Respitalities for fall 2020 are currently on hold pending developments with COVID-19 in our community **
